Transformative feminist leadership

As the goal of realising women’s rights and gender justice necessitates the transformation of power structures, the focus of this project was building the individual and organisational capacities of Ethiopian gender equality practitioners and media artists as regards the practice of transformative feminist leadership and analysis through a participatory training-of-trainers format.

In consequence, the project brought together twenty Ethiopian gender equality practitioners and media artists for a seven-day interactive workshop in Addis Abeba, September of 2018. As a part of the workshop process, the participants co-created a prototype toolkit on transformative feminist leadership, contextualised to Ethiopia. The purpose of developing this toolkit was to fill an initially identified skill and toolset gap for the local network of gender equality practitioners & media artists. Furthermore, the toolkit will help any individuals in leadership positions examine and analyse their existing organisational structure and operations through a feminist lens.

The Toolkit

The resulting bi-lingual toolkit prototype “Transformative Feminist Leadership - Enabling Collective Capacities for Gender Justice in Ethiopia“ is now available under a Creative Commons license for anyone interested to download and apply to your own working contexts:

Please contact our project manager Blen Gebrehiwot Desta with any feedback or questions that can help us further develop, adapt and spread the toolkit in future iterations.
